Getting Started

First-Time Setup

When the application is first installed, the database is automatically created and populated with all D&D 5e game data. No additional setup is required beyond creating your account.

1. Create Your Account

Navigate to the application and click Register. Enter a username, display name, and password (minimum 5 characters). The first user to register automatically becomes an Administrator with full access to admin features. All subsequent users receive standard user access, and start with the curated default set of source books enabled (see Source Books).

2. Create Your First Character

Click Create Character in the sidebar to launch the guided wizard: ability scores, race, subrace, class, background, proficiencies, equipment, and details. See Character Creation for full details. If you already have the character in FoundryVTT, the card at the top of the wizard imports the actor file instead.

3. Optional: Set Up a Campaign

If you're a DM, go to Campaigns in the sidebar and create a campaign. You can decide which books and entries are allowed in the Rulesets workbench, configure house rules, and invite players with a short invite code or link. Characters created within a campaign use the campaign's ruleset. See Campaigns and Rulesets.

Navigation

The sidebar menu provides access to all features. The browser tab names the page you're on — a character's name on their sheet, "D&D Manager" elsewhere.
